Distracting your mind from your own thoughts can be a huge help when anxiety begins to consume you. Before you hit the sheets at night, you should think about all of the great stuff that is occurring in your life right now. Do the same thing the following morning. You may believe that you do not have any good things happening in your life, but every single person can find something good in his or her life, even if it is something very small. Doing so can help to decrease your anxiety. Control your thoughts to help yourself deal with anxiety better. Many times anxiety is caused by thoughts you have in your head. Negative thoughts can overwhelm you and cause anxiety. Once you learn how to control what you are thinking about, you can deal with anxiety better and possibly get rid of it. There is no magic bullet to treat anxiety, it has to be treated in a professional manner by professionals. If you have seen advertisements for medications or miracle cures, do not believe them. Many times the treatment of anxiety can only be achieved over time, so do not believe in the snake charmers. When people are under high emotional stress, they might find it difficult to eat on a regular basis and possibly experience significant changes in their metabolism. So, if you are experiencing anxiety, you need to make sure that the meals you eat are full of nutrients, and you are not wasting your effort eating foods that are not good for you. To conquer any situation in which anxiety rears its head in a seemingly debilitating manner, do your best to characterize the situation you are facing as something far more positive than you ordinarily might. By viewing a stressful situation as a valuable opportunity to gain personal strength, you will find it far easier to handle than it would ordinarily have been. If you have a small snack that is high in protein right before you go to bed, you will help your body keep steady blood sugar in the night. Many times your panic attacks and anxiety will happen in the middle of the night. The cause of this is often low blood sugar, so a snack will help you stay asleep. Try staying active. Exercise is a great way to let out some of your tensions and worries that have been plaguing you. It can put any negative thoughts far away from you and it naturally creates positive thoughts for you to dwell on, instead! Make sure that you go to the gym! When you're having a lot of anxiety, comedy shows can help alleviate it. Comedies help you to get you laughing and forget about anxiety symptoms. A funny movie can even cause you to forget why you were anxious at all! It is okay to cry if you are depressed, or anxious. If you feel like crying, then you need to express yourself, and let those emotions out. There is a reason our bodies are designed to have tears, and to cry. It is so, that these emotions do not get trapped inside us, and cause bigger problems. Learn to feel the anxiety in your body. Focus on where it is located, such as a tight chest feeling, and stay focused on it until the feeling dissolves. This may seem difficult at first, but with just a bit of practice you will be able to release anxious feelings within seconds or a few minutes. Some people who have been diagnosed with anxiety disorder are prescribed medication by their mental health professional. If your physician has determined that you need medication to aid in the treatment of your anxiety disorder, it is important that you take it as directed. Never abruptly stop taking it. If you are having some side effects from your medication, discuss these issues with your doctor. It is also important to remember that some medications will cause a bad reaction, if they are not tapered off gradually while under a doctor's care. Keep an ongoing anxiety journal. As you progress through your day, and you feel anxiety over certain issues, console yourself with the knowledge that you will be expressing your anxiety through writing. When you take the time to write your worries and fears out, you release them and allow for clearer thinking of the issue. Consider keeping the journal with you for those most difficult times. Sugar can have a very detrimental effect on your body as the day wears on, so you should try to limit consumption at all costs. Stick to sugar-free food and drinks and refrain from eating candy, if you desire a snack. Eating healthy can improve your bodily function and minimize anxiety. Learn to breathe from your stomach. This form of breathing technique is called diaphragmatic breathing. It is simply taking deep breaths to the point where your belly button is pushed out. Count as you inhale and exhale; and you will find yourself becoming calmer and more relaxed with each breath you take. Keep a journal about your anxiety and what it is that is bothering you. Everyday write down in your journal how you overcame dealing with your anxiety that day or how it affected you, if you had a bad day. Now compare them and make the necessary adjustments to it. You do not have to allow your anxiety to rule your life. Use the advice in the article above to gain control over your life. Get out and experience what the world has to offer without suffering from anxiety attacks that can destroy a good day out with the family.
