Medications are often prescribed for people dealing with anxiety disorders and the results have proven to be very effective in most cases. If you are suffering from anxiety, your breathing can be disrupted. You can combat this by practicing breathing exercises to regain control. Count your breaths and relax as you breath in and out. If you really want to enhance the efforts of deep breathing, find a quite spot and sit there while you breathe. Try not to watch the news often. Many times, the news is filled with all kinds of negative stories, about occurrences in your town, and around the world. When dealing with anxiety, you do not need to feed the anxiety anymore negative issues to dwell on. Turn off the TV, pick up a lighthearted book to read instead. It is a surprise to many, but laughter is often a great tonic for reducing anxiety and steering your thoughts to a happier mindset. Go talk to someone that makes you laugh, read funny comics or watch movies that crack you up and you will soon feel a lot better. Talk to a trusted friend or family member about your anxiety problems. If you tell someone else how you feel, they may be able to help you put things in perspective and help you to think positive thoughts. This can help you get rid of anxiety or at least make it better. Try creating your own anxious worrying period. Choose a single or two 10 minute spots each day where you can worry and just feel anxious. During this worry period, try focusing only on the anxious, negative thoughts without trying to correct them. The rest of the day should remain anxiety-free. If you find yourself feeling overly anxious, get outside and get some exercise. Exercise has many benefits for your whole body, and a good workout can really clear your mind and help improve your mood. You do not have to head to the gym or the pool, if you do not want to. Just taking a walk can help. When you are having an anxiety attack, it is a good idea to splash your face with cold water. Many people have heard this, but they may not do it because they think that it is not going to really help them. Actually, it causes what is known as a dive reflex, and it sends a message to your brain to tell your body to slow down. Adjust your chemical balance with exercise. Anxiety is often triggered by low levels of serotonin, and exercise can remedy this. Bring your production up through activities like walking, jogging or general exercise. Dopamine increases as well, which is also a relaxant. This decreases anxiety and depression. Find something else to focus on. Instead of thinking about whatever it is that is causing your anxiety, find something calm, peaceful and serene to focus on. It could be a good memory, a future dream or goal, or just something that you find calm and soothing. Don't forget to take deep breaths as you do this. Don't let yourself spend time with people that make you stressed. Negative friends are the ones you want to stay away from the most, keep this in mind. If you are unable to deal with people who cause you stress, avoid them until you learn to handle them. Whenever you feel your anxiety escalating, it may be helpful to turn on some relaxing music and close your eyes. Your mind will drift off and you will not be so focused on the negative way you are feeling. Classical music and ocean sounds seem to help out many people. If you continually experience high levels of stress, even after trying to deal with it in other ways, exercise can be a great idea. It helps to reduce stress naturally, by allowing you to work through stressful situations, but also by releasing different hormones that can actually minimize stress levels. Have a mantra to repeat when you are feeling some anxiety. When you start to feel anxious, repeat this mantra until you begin to calm down. This will help you deal with those feelings before they get on top of you and you have a full blown anxiety attack. Exercise often. Working out, regardless of what activity you choose to engage in, will help you feel less anxious. Studies have shown that aerobic activities can help people as much as some kinds of medication. They are able to alter the way the brain works, even protecting it to a certain extent. Try to go on a diet. When you eat healthier, your mood starts to build up and this can prevent you from becoming anxious. A lot of times, people become full of anxiety when they haven't been treating their bodies to healthy foods, so try and eat a bit healthier. Talking about your problems, can help you reduce the amount of anxiety you feel. Consider gathering at a local Starbucks for a cup of coffee with a few friends, and talk about your problems. If you don't have a lot of friends, consider participating in an internet chat room instead. Everyone experiences stress and anxiety differently, which is why you will have to try various methods until you find one that works. Do not hesitate to get professional help or to talk to your friends and family about your problems. It might be hard at first but actively looking for a solution is the best thing to do.
